One of Colorado's main draws is Rocky Mountain National Park, which makes for a great day trip. Drive a little over an hour through a dramatic canyon for a day of hiking, sightseeing, and wildlife viewing. Depending on your destination, skiing is 1-3 hours away. Locals head to Echo Mountain, Eldora (near Boulder), or Loveland (near Georgetown) for a more low-key experience. We're also within a couple of hours of Winter Park, Arapahoe Basin, Breckenridge, and Copper Mountain.
Getting Around:
The Rocky Mountains are to the West, and Downtown Denver is North of where you will be staying. HWY 285 and I-70 West will take you into the mountains and straight to the ski areas, while you can hop on I-25 to access Boulder and Fort Collins to the North and Colorado Springs to the South. I-25 to HWY 36 takes you to Boulder and eventually the Rocky Mountain National Park gateway towns of Lyons and Estes Park.
Both University Hills and all of Denver are highly walkable areas. In addition to nearby S Colorado Blvd, Cherry Creek, and LoDo/Downtown Denver are great locations to stroll. A car is recommended if you will be exploring the mountains. For those without a car, we recommend utilizing Uber or Lyft to reach further destinations in and around Denver. Get exploring!
