What a great experience! We traveled with my older parents (82 and 79). Tony, Julie, Pauline, and Rudy were incredible helping to make sure they were safe and felt comfortable. The house was pretty much what we pictured. The upstairs room uses just the spiral stairs, so too difficult for my parents to use, but it was one of the favorite rooms even through that room did not have AC. It is also nice to know ahead of time, that Alison has Rudy as a driver that can transport people anywhere (grocery store, fish market, bank, airport, restaurants) and help with experiences (like Black River, Mayfield Falls, the Blue Hole). You just need to ask Rudy about prices as he just makes his money by driving you. Also, many times the experience costs less than the companies like Viator and can give a more local experience. Also the staff can cook for you, just ask them. You would pay for the groceries and pay them about $100 to cook the meal- well worth it! Also, it is good to know you should expect to help tip the staff. I think we tipped about $20/day to Pauline (more if she helps with laundry or cooking), and 20% on our bar tab with Julie, then gave Bubba $40 (landscaping) and tip out Tony, as he will do everything to make your stay perfect. I cannot say enough great things about the experience. The ONLY downfall was over Christmas and NY, the next door outdoor night club plays music so loud, it will be hard to sleep. We actually had to get a room at another hotel for my parents on those two nights, but I think they only book events there a few days a year. Know that it is all about the beach, the bar, swimming, hanging outside and spending time with those you are with. It is not the all inclusive resort, and that is exactly why we liked it- ya mon. We hope to come back and will hold a special place in our hearts for our experiences and stay in Jamaica at the Gatehouse and with all the amazing staff.
