Vrachtschepen in voortuin! Private Sandy Beach - groot dek - Best View on River

Gelegen op 4 mijl van het centrum van Sault, MI is ons kleine stukje van de hemel! Gelegen aan de Lower St. Mary's River, je hebt een eigen zandstrand om te zwemmen, zonnebaden, vissen of zelfs sneeuwscooter en skiën in de winter.
Een van de weinige gebouwen met ondiep water voor het hele gezin. Ga op het nieuw aangelegde dek zitten en word een 'bootnerd' terwijl je je verwondert over de vriendelijke reuzen die de rivier reizen. Dicht genoeg om downtown te lopen voor het diner, maar afgelegen genoeg voor een privé-gezinsvakantie!
Het huis is in 1984 gebouwd door onze lokale middelbare school. We hebben muren geslagen, nieuwe verlichting en plafondventilatoren geïnstalleerd in elke kamer, nieuwe toiletten, nieuwe gordijnen, nieuwe matrassen en beddengoed, een nieuw dek, nieuwe verf door het hele huis, enz.
Belangrijke upgrades voor 2020 zijn onder meer een nieuwe keuken, nieuw tapijt en het upgraden van de badkamers.
Er is een rolstoelhelling bij de voordeur en de hoofdbadkamer is toegankelijk voor rolstoelgebruikers.
We hebben een pooltafel en tafeltennistafel in de garage. Er is ook een pack & play en kinderstoel.
Wifi is overal in het huis beschikbaar.
We hebben deze woning Mohawk Acres genoemd. Het is gelegen op de site van de voormalige Mohawk Supper Club en de Taffey Abel Lodge.
Clarence "Taffy" Abel begon niet met hockey tot zijn late tienerjaren. In een paar korte jaren werd hij de vlagdrager van het Amerikaanse olympische team van 1924, de enige inheemse Amerikaanse vlagdrager, de eerste Amerikaans geboren NHL-speler, winnaar van de Olympische zilveren medaille in 1924, en twee Stanley Cups in zijn 8 jaar in de NHL.
Hij keerde terug naar de Sault om te trainen en opende een avondmaalclub genaamd Taffy's Lodge. De Detroit Red Wings runden hun zomerkamp in de Sault in de Pullar-arena van 48-58. Volgens de legende brachten veel van de spelers en coaches wat "kwaliteit" uit bij Taffy's plaats!
Taffy stierf in 1964. De hockeyarena Lake Superior State is nu vernoemd naar Taffy. Zorg ervoor dat je een game uitprobeert wanneer je in de stad bent!

I always look forward to coming back to this home on the St Marys River. Perfect location just fifteen minutes from the Soo Locks. Very comfortable with lots of space. Very nice deck with lots of comfortable chairs for freighter watching. The owner is always making improvements. It’s a pleasure to visit.

Wonderful house right on the river. Easy to communicate with the owner. Great location, freighters visible in river right outside. House was clean and orderly with lovely decor items I wish I had in my own home. Will definitely stay again if I get up this way.

Great views of freighters
We enjoyed the deck and fire pit and modern kitchen appliances in addition to the vintage decor. Furniture was all very comfortable and rooms were large enough to spread out. Master bedroom was well equipped for handicap use. Being close to Sault st Marie gave us options for tourist places to visit. Using the app for freighters gave us the chance to observe many ships going by. We also saw an eagle on the beach twice.

Exceeded expectations
Spent three amazing nights. Wanted a place where my 97 year old mother could watch freighters. Could not have found a better place. Exceptionally clean and well stocked. Charming up north decor. Master bedroom has a thoughtfully laid out handicap accessible bathroom. Location was excellent for riding my bicycle, went to Sugar Island on one of my rides. My wife and I will definitely return.

Another great visit
This is the third year I've stayed at this property, and I'm already booked for next summer. Comfortable, lovely, well stocked home. Loved the improvements made since last year. Enjoy watching the freighters from the large deck. And it's close if you want to head into town for dinner or other activities. It's a perfect getaway!

This is the second time I've stayed in this location and have already booked another trip. Beautiful home on a perfect freighter viewing lot in an amazing town with lots to see. The home was very clean and had everything we needed. No complaints!

Wonderful time again!
This is our third year and next year is already booked. Owner keeps updating the house and furnishings. We loved the new couches and new outside deck furniture. All new sinks and the garage was converted into an entertainment area, which is nice for rainy days. It is always relaxing watching the big ships with room for the whole family. As noted in previous reviews... one family member is physically challenged, and this house is perfect for their comfort too with ramps and accessible bathroom. Our stay is enjoyable for all. Fantastic Wildlife & Freighter Views plus Handicap accessible
The house is set up well for me with my rollator. Easily able to access the kitchen, lounge, bedrooms. Master bath shower also easily accessible for me & my rollator. Owner responded to any requests quickly. She is really to work with. The large wrap-around deck with several tables and lots of chairs wonderful to enjoy the sun or shade and watch the wildlife. The view from all the windows facing the river and the deck was amazing. We love freighters and the first day we managed to catch a view of 6 of the 13 1000 foot freighters including my favorite the James R Barker! We saw Cranes, Geese, Deer and a fawn, terns, ducks. Easily able to access the Boat Tours of the Soo Locks, skipping up to Clyde's Drive-IN for a burger or down to Cozy Corners Restaurant in Barbeau. We are coming back in 2025!

Wonderful!!! Clean, great location, room, ships
We came up for LSSU graduation with the grandparents, my husband & I and our adult daughter. The place was perfect!!! We had room to be together or separate. The multiple bathrooms made it easier for everyone to get ready for the day. We had dinner on the deck one night & at the dining room the next due to weather. We VERY much enjoyed watching the ships go by as well. I would highly recommend!!!

Great place on the river!
I always look forward to visiting this clean and comfortable home right on the St Marys River. It’s a great freighter watching spot and the Soo Locks are a short drive away. The house is cozy and welcoming and the owner is quick to respond to questions and very flexible. Some good restaurants in Sault Ste Marie and on the Canadian side too.

Clean and Great Views
The property is wonderful. The amenities were thoughtful and plenty. It was clean and the beds were very comfortable. The view of Saint Marys River were spectacular. We were only there for one night and the next freighter came past around 2am, but we were out there watching it as we didn’t want to miss it. Even at night it, it was an amazing view. My only wish would be for a later checkout, but other than that it was a great experience and would love to stay again.

Great Stay in the Sault Ste. Marie
The great strength of the property is its view of the St. Mary's River and its ship traffic. The view is set off by an expansive backyard and beautiful beach. We greatly loved it! We even saw Sand Hill Cranes on the beach, which was very memorable. I would recommend using an app to keep track of the upcoming shipping. We tried the apps recommended in the welcome packet, but found them a bit frustrating. I would recommend the MarineTraffic app. It works like Google Maps only for shipping. It was terrific. As an ex-Coast Guardsman, watching the shipping brought back memories. The home itself was clean and functional. It has plenty of room, a very well-equipped kitchen, and a very large deck with grill and fire pit facing the river. The primary bedroom/master bath is fully handicapped accessible. Guests with balance or mobility issues may have problems with the main bath and one of the other bedrooms. The dining area is roomy and great for larger groups. It is convenient to the Soo and the locks, only minutes away. It is also less than an hour from Mackinac Island Ferry. We toured both and greatly enjoyed them. In addition, we took the Pictured Rocks Sunset Cruise, which was worth the two hour trip to Munising. and we drove the highway to Pancake Bay in Canada. On that trip, stop for the "World Famous Apple Fritters", which were incredibly good but avoid Canadian Carvers, a tourist trap with no carvers. The home is highly recommended! An excellent value!

House on the river.
This place was very comfortable. The view was spectacular. We saw many freighters come through and the kids jumped the waves. All stores are just a short drive away. But the most popular for our group was the trout pond at rotary park. We made 4-5 trips there. Many trout were caught and some were even grilled and ate one evening. Thank you again for sharing your house with us, Just one down fall, no air conditioning. We still loved the house and made due with all the ceiling and pedestal fans. We hope to return sometime in the future.
