I recently stayed at the Tampa Westin, and my experience was disappointing. As a Marriott Bonvoy member and frequent Expedia user, I booked a Sunset View King Bayview room. Upon check-in, I was given a room with a parking lot view. The night clerk informed me that my booked room was unavailable due to large groups at the hotel. He offered me a double bayview room, which was not what I had booked or paid for. What was worse was the clerk’s dismissive attitude. He told me I was free to check out if I didn’t like it and refused to contact Marriott customer service. No refund, rate adjustment, or compensation was offered. The next morning, I was awakened by construction noise. My "sunset bayview" overlooked a construction site. The bayview was not as pictured on the site. When I raised my concerns with front desk manager, he was equally unhelpful. He reiterated that my booked room was unavailable and blamed Expedia, saying if I had booked directly, I would have been informed about the construction. Expedia negotiated a refund for my remaining two nights, allowing me to check out early. While I appreciate Expedia’s support, the way I was treated at the Tampa Westin was unacceptable. The staff’s unwillingness to assist and dismissive attitude left a lasting negative impression. As a frequent traveler and loyal Marriott customer, this experience may have been my last stay at a Westin property.
